How to Help Your Children Stay Healthy

As a parent, you might be wondering how to keep kids in good shape. The truth is that your child’s health comes down to a number of choices that you make each and every day. If you are committed to keeping your child in shape, the process becomes much easier.

Good Diet

Your child’s health starts with his diet. Make sure that he gets foods from each of the five food groups daily and doesn’t consume too many sweets. Eating meals as a family and setting a good example with the foods that you eat yourself goes a long way toward establishing your child’s eating habits.

Plenty of Exercise

Children that spend most of their days sitting in front of the television often struggle to stay in shape. Childhood obesity has reached epidemic status in the United States because kids no longer go outside to play. Make sure that your child gets at least 60 minutes of exercise daily to keep her in shape.

Lots of Sleep

Your children need plenty of sleep to develop properly. Pre-schoolers need between 11 and 12 hours per night, while teens can get by with between nine and 10 hours. If your child isn’t getting enough sleep, make the necessary adjustments to his routine to ensure that he does.
